Made someone mad...i think. need help resolving issue...?

So there is this guy who lives in my dorm and we used to be pretty good friends up until he changed DRASTICALLY. He started drinking and sleeping around, which is totally not like him. We used to go to his church together and hang out. Then he met some new people and we haven't been friends since then, but we're both okay with it (It was a mutual thing). Anyway, I saw him the other week and it looked like he gained maybe 15-20 pounds more. So I made a comment to my roommate about how everyone I know has put on weight since college started. And as we were walking up the stairs to our room, I saw him and we said hi. As my roommate and I left, my roommate said, "He did get bigger!" I think he might have heard because he's been pretty cold with me. It doesn't really bother me mainly because we're not friends, but what bothers me is that I think he might have told everyone else that I was gossiping, blah, blah, blah because now everyone is basically giving me the cold shoulder too. We have some mutual friends who haven't been so mutual lately...just wondering how I can get by without letting this bother me.

You have no evidence that he told anyone anything, except that you believe people are suddenly colder to you. First, could that be your imagination? Second: Saying, "He did get bigger" is not a serious crime. Last I heard, there was free speech in this country and observations were allowed.

In sum, I believe you're overthinking this and need to act like it never happened. Don't apologize to him. That only perpetuates drama. Just carry on as usual.

So basically what you are saying is that his feelings were hurt but you want to know how to get by without your feelings being hurt. Correct? You can't. What you can do is simply learn from it and move on.
